We had 4X Games Champion Mat Fraser answer a few fill-in-the-blanks about his training and recovery. Or as we like to call it, "Mat Libs."

When I’m not working out, I’m working hard outside of the gym! The first thing I do when I leave the gym is eat, call Sammy, go straight home.

The last thing I do before I go to bed is read. Usually something educational. Right now, I am reading about being a better investor.  During offseason, I do all the time-consuming projects I can’t do when I am training. Right now, I am restoring a barn.

This year’s Open is right around the corner. Same as every other year. I’m pretty emotionless about it. I’m playing the strategy game. Winning the open hasn’t been a priority in a few years. I’m going into it just get top 20.

This season I’m working on everything. The big thing I took away from last season is recovery and body management. I had more aches and pains in my body than I had any other season. This year, I’m gonna be better with my time management to allow for better recovery.

I spend one day a week outside of the gym and I like to do sit and do nothing. To recharge and reset I sit on the couch watching Netflix (see above).

The last time I got sore I put on Netflix and rolled out and stretched for two hours. My default show is The Office, but lately it’s been Shameless.

Last night, I got 9 hours of sleep. I usually try to get 10 hours of sleep. Because we got home late, I was a little late getting to bed.

This week I trained sporadically because I had to move out of my house in Vermont and to my house in Tennessee. My training was as quick as possible! This week I’m eating 3500 calories a day. Normally, I’m closer to 6,000-7,000 calories a day.
